Fairfax Chamber to Host Veterans Hiring Symposium in Partnership with American Freedom Foundation October 5

Innovative Dual Track Event to Focus on Best Practices in Developing and Executing Veterans Hiring Programs & Serve as Precursor to American Freedom Foundation’s Veterans Career Hiring Event November 10

Tysons Corner, Va. – September 4, 2012 - The Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce (Fairfax Chamber) is pleased to announce that it will host a unique event, Serving Those Who Have Served: A Symposium on Hiring Veterans, in partnership with the American Freedom Foundation on Friday October 5 from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner.

“This innovative program, which is a unique twist on the traditional career fair, looks at high unemployment among Veterans from a different angle,” said Fairfax Chamber President & CEO Jim Corcoran.  “The event is intended to empower Northern Virginia businesses, many of which are government contractors, with the knowledge and best practices to develop and execute successful and sustainable Veterans hiring programs within their companies.”

A second track of the half-day symposium, which is intended for active duty military and Veterans, will focus on transitioning into the private sector and climbing the career ladder. The day will culminate with one-on-one mentoring sessions between veterans and corporate professionals, many of which are also Veterans.

The Veterans Hiring Symposium also serves as a precursor for the American Freedom Foundation’s Veterans Career Hiring Event to be held on November 10 at the Patriot Center at George Mason University. Through technology provided by CareerBuilder, Veterans will be paired with companies and have on-site interviews at the event ideally resulting in immediate employment.

“After 11 years of war, our Veterans and their families need help finding jobs,” said American Freedom Foundation Co-Founder, SMA Jack Tilley (retired), “They have given so much to our country, providing opportunities for employment is one way we can give something back to them.  Help us help our Veterans!”

Thanks to the generous support of sponsor companies CPS Professional Services, LLC, Deltek, Dulles Metrorail Connectors, ICF International, Jorge Scientific Corporation , MarCom Group and Northrop Grumman, registration for the Veterans Hiring Symposium is free for both Veterans and corporate professionals and available online at www.fairfaxchamber.org.
