2014 AMERICAN FREEDOM FESTIVAL SAN DIEGO

World Classic Rockers

features former members of Journey  . Santana . Boston  . Lynyrd Skynyrd . Steppenwolf

Celebrating the 5th anniversary of the American Freedom Festival San Diego was a night to remember.  Under the stars of a glorious evening . . . on the deck of the historic and amazing USS Midway . . . with friends and supporters . . . who all had one purpose in mind, to honor and pay tribute to the heroes of America’s armed forces – both veterans and active duty alike – bringing awareness to their service and sacrifice.  Add in the magic and energy of the world’s greatest classic rock all-star band, World Classic Rockers, and the fun reached a fever pitch that left the Sold Out crowd dancing in the aisles.

The night started with our inimitable host and AFF Co-Founder, SMA (R) Jack Tilley welcoming everyone, laying out the evening’s activities which included a live broadcast to Joint Base Lewis McChord in Seattle and on the Pentagon Channel to 350 military installations in 170 countries.

After a moving tribute by Dr. Ken Druck, one of the nation’s foremost authorities on resilience and healing after loss, Gold Star mothers, Sue Pollard and Maria Simpson, shared what real sacrifice means after losing both of their sons and a nephew in war.  Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman gave a moving performance to conclude this presentation.  It was something to behold!

Each of our beneficiaries of the evening’s event, San Diego Armed Service YMCA, Wounded Warrior Support Network, REBOOT Workshops™ and Nice Guys of San Diego shared the great work they are doing on behalf of our veterans.

Then it was time for the party to begin.  World Classic Rockers took the stage to a thunderous reception and proceeded to knock out one classic timeless hit after another - made famous by these original members of Santana, Steppenwolf, Journey, Boston and Lynyrd Skynyrd.  From the first note, the audience was on their feet . . . dancing and showing their enthusiastic appreciation for these great musicians and their historic set.

After the show it was all we could do to catch our breaths.  A great time was had by all.

Deep appreciation goes out to all our sponsors, especially the staff of the USS Midway.  It has been a great and lasting partnership for five wonderful years.
